Our New No.7 Pizza

Franco Manca and Ferrarelle naturally sparkling water have invited some of Italy’s top chefs to create a series of No.7 guest pizzas. Each chef designs their pizza based on the area they grew up in in Italy. Our new No.7 has been created by Diego Vitagliano.

Diego was born in Naples, where he still lives and works as a pizzaiolo. A first generation pizzaiolo in his family, he started an apprenticeship to learn how to make pizza, and now runs two successful pizzerias in the Campania region. He is one of the first chefs to launch contemporary Neapolitan pizza, giving it a young, fresh identity. He believes that when it comes to pizza, ‘there is no future and innovation without the roots firmly planted in tradition’.

Diego Vitagliano - No.7 pizza chef

Diego was born around the time when Diego Armando Maradona was leading the Napoli football club towards their first “scudetto” (Italian for ‘little shield’, a decorations worn by Italian sports clubs that win the annual championship of their respective sport in the previous season). Known as the ‘El Pibe de Oro’ (golden boy), he became Diego Vitagliano’s childhood idol, and Pizzeria “10” was named after Maradona’s infamous No.10 position.

Franco Manca Oct No.7

Working with our Head Pizzaiolo Alfonso, Diego created our new No.7 pizza. It’s inspired by the Campania region, but uses local British ingredients. It’s got lightly spiced pancetta, British mozzarella, Colston Bassett stilton, fresh baby kale, crispy onions and a light organic tomato and caramelised onion base.
