OUR NEW GUEST PIZZA
This year, Franco Manca and Ferrarelle naturally sparkling water are inviting some of Italy’s most exciting chefs to create a series of guest No.7 pizzas. Each one is based on their regional Italian heritage. Gianfranco’s No.7 is the third in the series.
Gianfranco Iervolino is one of the true masters of Neapolitan pizza. Born in Boscoreale, at the foothills of Vesuvius, he was inspired by the great tradition of chefs in the Campania region. And his love of Neapolitan traditions also extends to the music and theatre of the area having written two records and continuing to dream big of bringing a pizza based opera to the masses.
Gianfranco spent his early days as a chef crafting his trade under the guidance of Andrea Canavacciuolo (father of the famous Antonio) before opening and running Pomigliano d’Arco’s now highly regarded pizzeria 450 Gradi (meaning 450 degrees).
We decided it was crucial to visit Naples – you know, just to see what all the fuss was about. And we weren’t disappointed. He serenaded us with his guitar, he showed us around 450 Gradi, we met the team (including mini Gianfranco) and he hosted our dinner – leaving us full, inspired and wanting more.
Gianfranco’s our kind of guy. So we asked him to create our kind of pizza. Championing seasonal ingredients from his spiritual home of Campania, our new No.7 features spiced butternut squash, pancetta, porcini mushrooms and roasted hazelnuts, mozzarella and Franco and Cantarelli Grana.
